Describe one of your favorite magical or break-through moments that you created or experienced with the help of the Drums Alive program.
Little moments that continue to happen whenever I use any component of Drums Alive – my favorite thing to see is all of the students moving and participating, but when I look around the gym or classroom, I see everyone smiling. This program allows the students to have an outlet – both physically and emotionally. It is so rewarding to see them feel free to move and have fun.
Please describe your background.
I have a degree in Kinesiology from the University of Rhode Island and I am physical education & health teacher in the city of Pawtucket, RI. I have an extensive background in dance and just love to be active!
What initially drew you into Drums Alive?
Our district was fortunate to be a recipient of the Carol White Physical Education Program (PEP) Grant and with some of the funding we were able to be trained in Drums Alive. From the moment the training began, I feel in love. The energy, the excitement from the drumming and Carrie’s passion for this program drew me in instantly. I could not wait to bring this program to my students!
What makes you want to share the Drums Alive program with others?
I want others to feel what I feel from this program. Whenever I am doing one of the many Drums Alive activities, I feel happy, excited and energized! This program focuses on the whole student and can be easily adapted for any setting.
How do you use the Drums Alive program to be of service to others in your community?
I use it in school, after school programs, community events as well as group exercise classes through our city’s Parks and Recreation department.
Please share your favorite West Music product and explain why you like it so much and how you use it in your Drums Alive classes.
The 10 inch Tubano drums. Our music teacher has them and they are fabulous. They are lightweight, easy for the students to handle, great quality and perfect for a Music/Phys. Ed. Drums Alive combination class. I also LOVE the boomwhackers!
